VANNI AID Foundation

The Vanni Aid Foundation exists to support the livelihood of the children of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka.

The disruption in education during the civil war, throughout the pandemic and beyond has left the majority of middle and high school students with very poor knowledge of English and results from the English test dictate which areas of study these students can apply to for college.

We support these students through a supplemental English Program that provides participants with better understanding English language and scores that significantly outperform non-participants on required standardized tests, as noted by the pass rates on the 2022 GCE (OL) results in English:

  • Our students – 83.8%
  • Vavuniya North overall – 55.8%

When we started these classes over 10 years ago, 5 children out of 500 passed in the zone.  This year, 53 students will be qualified to enter a University if they maintain their grades in the advanced exams, and more than half these students are part of our program.  This is an incredible accomplishment that the children and their teachers should be deeply proud of.

Our program was designed intentionally to be administered and managed in Sri Lanka, with support from VAF.  We achieve this via a partnership with Rotary Club of Colombo and local Program Coordinators who are also teachers in the program on site in Vavuniya.

Please contribute generously, as the future of these children is in your hands.
